Thanksgiving 2008 Pictures

Thanksgiving 2008 – a great time was had by all!  We had most of the family at Dave & Jens house and a ton of food.  Thanks to Mom, Karen, Julie, Kim, Val, and Emma for all bringing dishes to pass, and to everyone for making the trip.  It’s great when we can all get together like that.

Before everyone left, I took all of the pictures off the cameras so we’d have them all.  I posted them yesterday and forgot to make note of it here on the site.

New Galleries – Indiana Gathering and Ryan Pictures

I added a few new galleries today, one from the weekend of November 8, 2008 in Indiana.  Eric and Emily made the trip to Indiana with the triplets, so everyone was together for the weekend at Dave & Mindy’s.  This was the first time Ryan got to meet many of the Pettet family, and there are some great pictures of him with Grandpa and Grandma Pettet.

Also finished the Ryan’s 6th month gallery and started the 7th month.

Galleries Password Protected

I had been thinking about making our photo galleries private for some time, and today (by request) I went ahead and made the change.

I welcome (and encourage!) all family members and friends to view our photo galleries, please understand that the only reason for requiring registration is that we don’t feel there is any valid reason to make them available to the entire Internet.  It is a family album, after all.

For those of you subscribed to MichiganMartins.net for e-mail updates:  I use two separate applications to run the website and the photo gallery, and I have not found a way to get them to share a login – so you have to register in the photo galleries as well.  Sorry, I’m just not that much of a tech geek.  Just for clarification, registering on the web site sends you an email update letting you know any time we write a post here on the site – any time we add pictures, we usually post it here to let people know there are new photos in the gallery.  Registering for the galleries permits you to view the photos.

I am setting it up so that when you register for the photo galleries, it will advise me of a new registrant.  Once I receive that e-mail, I will check to assure that it is family or friend, and then I will activate your account.  As of right now, I’m still bug-checking the whole registration and approval process, so if you have any problems, please let me know!

And please, don’t bother yourself with considering whether you’re “close enough family” or “close enough friends.”  You’re all extended the warmest invite I can communicate in these words – we put these pictures up to share with you!

Thanks,

Dave

Ryan’s Fifth and Sixth Month Galleries

I finally got the fifth month pictures up today, and got most of the sixth month up (still 10 days left until he reaches six months, as of today) so I’ll add to this gallery later.

The fifth month gallery has pictures of Ryan with Grandpa Walt, Aunt Karen & Uncle Terry, and Aunt Kim.

The sixth month features Ryan at a pumpkin patch,  and wearing his first halloween costumes.  Jen bought him the dragon outfit, and Grandma Lola brought him the pumpkin outfit.

Teeth!

Jen and I discovered Ryan’s first two teeth coming in this week.  They’re coming in from the bottom front – in fact, they’ve completely broken through at this point.  Ryan has been no more fussy than usual (not often, only when he’s bored or tired) over the last few weeks, so he’s a pretty tough little guy.

He’s also started laughing once in a while.  You have to catch him in the right mood, but when he’s having a good time you can go after his belly and he’ll crack up.  The first time I made him laugh in front of Jen, she cried.  It’s fun to watch her bittersweet moments in his development.  He’s changing so fast!

He has also started on solid foods in the past week or two.  Squash, green beans, and sweet peas have been in the diet so far.  Much to Mom’s chagrin, he’s already showing signs of independence from breast feeding.  Certain meals are better for breast feeding, such as early morning breakfast or mid-day snacks, but when he wants to get down to eating, he likes the bottle.

He’s also mostly able to sit up on his own now, if you put him in a sitting position and let him stabilize first.  He has the forward and back movement under control, but the side to side balance is still a bit of a challenge.

Every day brings new fun!

New Pictures

I’ve been falling behind a little lately on publishing pictures.  Tonight, I completed the Ryan’s Third Month gallery.  Now I’ve got to get the 4th month pictures together.

Also published the pontoon outing from August 17th.  Mom, Karen, Terry, Kim, Mike, Zack, Billy, Val, Joey, Dave, Jen, and Ryan on an all-day cruise of Spring Lake.

Ryan’s First Rollovers

Well, his 2nd and 3rd, anyway.  I was playing with him on the floor tonight doing some “tummy time” and he wasn’t fussing about it like he normally does.  He was staying strong on his arms and looking purposeful.  Suddenly, he started to tilt to his right, extending his left arm and then lifting it.  Pretty soon, he had rolled from tummy to back for his first time.  It was like he just knew what to do.

Jen was nearby but missed the first one.  We put Ryan back on his tummy and he did a few more for us, this time on video.  I guess once he had it figured out, it was no problem from there.

April 2003 Pictures

I just put up an album from a trip Jen and I made from Memphis to Lansing in April, 2003.  We were celebrating birthdays that weekend, Val’s 40th, Mom’s 66th and my 37th.

We started out on my birthday at the Michigan Brewing Company, one of Kim’s notorious nights out.  Then we celebrated Val’s 40th and Mom’s birthday at a campfire party at Val’s.

Family Picnic Pictures and Ryan’s Third Month Albums

I published a bunch of new pictures tonight. Last weekend, Jen and I made two trips down to Bath. On Saturday we spent the afternoon hanging out with Val, Joey, and Rob at Joey’s apartment pool party with the Uptown Band playing. Saturday night I went to the Ionia Free Fair tractor pulls with Nate and Billy, and we all had a great time watching the big display of horsepower.

Sunday we made another trip down to have a family picnic with Dad. He was going in for knee replacement surgery on Monday morning, and wanted to get together with everyone before then. I captured a nice series of pictures of Dad telling a story using the continuous shooting mode on our camera.

I also started the Ryan’s Third Month album with a number of pictures we have so far. There is a picture in that album that Val took of Jen and Ryan that is just fantastic, just mom and baby’s faces together. There are two exposures of that one in the album.
