Dave’s High School Graduation 1984

Dad recorded my HS graduation with his video camera, and I just recently found the VHS and digitized it. I broke it into segments:

Part I: Student speeches (5:50) –

Part II: Commencement speaker (11:56) –

I think Dad put the video away and went for his still camera before he captured much video, but nice to see…

Ryan Driving his Big Truck

Three weeks ago, Ryan’s Aunts Karen, Julie, Kim and Val and Grandma Lola bought him a nice truck for his 2nd birthday.  Until today, he’s been a bit hesitant to ride it.

We were outside playing, and I talked to him about the truck for a while, then encouraged him to give it another try.  He decided he’d hop in and give it a go.

He doesn’t quite have the steering thing figured out yet, nor the accelerator…but he had fun and it’ll be no time before he’s the King of the Road.

Fun with Balloons!

Ryan turned 17 months on Saturday.  We were at Reno’s in Lansing having pizza with him and someone had left a bunch of balloons at the table from a party.  We gave them to Ryan and he had a blast knocking them around.  Unfortunately, we didn’t have our better video camera with us, so all I got was this cell phone capture, but it’s still very cute.

Ryan’s Standing and Walking Progress

Just the other day, Ryan figured out how to stand up without holding on to anything.  Once he got it the first time, he did it every time following without a hitch.  In this video, he shows how he figured out how to do it by starting on his hands and feet.  The very next day, he figured out how to do it without even using his hands, just by getting up to his knees and standing from there.  We don’t have any video of that yet, but here’s the video of him going from all fours.  You’ll also see how far he can walk and how well he turns corners.  He’s a fast learner!

Ryan’s First Steps & 11th Month Gallery

Just a few days before Ryan turned 11th months, Jen was playing with him on the floor seeing how long he could stand by himself without something to lean on. We decided to see if he would walk a few steps unsupported between us, and he did! Up until this point, he has been “cruising” for several weeks (where he’s holding on to something like the couch, and walking alongside it.)

Now he’s starting to look to take a few steps from one thing he’s holding to another, without Mom or Dad involved. It’s fun to watch because he’s very uncertain of these steps, and tends to lunge toward the next item he’s going to lean on.

So here’s the video:

Then I added the 11th Month gallery, as well as completed the 10th Month gallery. Here are the quick links:

Ryan’s First Crawl Video and 9th Month Gallery

A week after Ryan turned 8 months, I was setting up the camera on the floor to take some video while he played.  He decided he had to come and get the camera, and I captured his first real crawl of 4-5 steps.  Prior to this, he had been lunging and maybe taking a few strides here and there.  Within a week after, he was motoring all over the house.

He just turned 9 months this week, and I’ve published his 9th month gallery.

Ryan’s First Rollovers

Well, his 2nd and 3rd, anyway.  I was playing with him on the floor tonight doing some “tummy time” and he wasn’t fussing about it like he normally does.  He was staying strong on his arms and looking purposeful.  Suddenly, he started to tilt to his right, extending his left arm and then lifting it.  Pretty soon, he had rolled from tummy to back for his first time.  It was like he just knew what to do.

Jen was nearby but missed the first one.  We put Ryan back on his tummy and he did a few more for us, this time on video.  I guess once he had it figured out, it was no problem from there.

Ryan Video

This is my first post to test video embedding on the site. It’s a short video of Ryan at 10 weeks, taken by our Nikon S10 digital camera. It is a digicam with video capability, so it’s not exactly hi-def, but could be very nice for uploading bits of video up to our site.

Here’s the little guy getting around in the morning:
